West Newbury Police plan to have an increased presence at the Pentucket Regional School District after learning of “unsubstantiated” threat rumors on social media.

Pentucket Regional serves the towns of Groveland, Merrimac and West Newbury.

“The department has investigated these rumors and has found them to be unsubstantiated. At this time, it is believed that there is no credible threat toward the school,” said West Newbury Police Chief Jeffrey Durand in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, West Newbury Police will have an increased police presence at the high school in the coming days. We will also continue to work closely with the Pentucket Regional School District on this matter.”

Police ask anyone with information about a potential threat to contact the West Newbury Police Department at 978-363-1212.
