The Lawrence man wanted in connection to a shooting in that city is being held on $100,000 cash bail after taking Haverhill Police on a chase last week, Judge Stephen Abany ruled.
Twenty-seven-year-old David Hernandez appeared in Haverhill District Court Thursday to answer to three counts of leaving the scene of personal injury and two counts of drug possession after being arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Lawrence on Nov. 6.
In his attempt to evade State Police, Haverhill detectives and FBI agents, Hernandez struck three cars—including one driven by a grandmother with her 5-year-old granddaughter inside—during a rush hour pursuit near Broadway and Monument Street. Two people were treated for minor injuries after the accident, police said.
Behind the wheel of a black 2006 Dodge Charger, Hernandez was ordered at gunpoint to stop before he bailed on foot and fled into the backyards of 11-13 Monument St. He was quickly apprehended and handcuffed there by troopers with the assistance of Haverhill Police Officer Zachary Bouchard. According to police, Hernandez had altered his appearance by cutting off the dreadlocks he had at the time of last summer’s alleged shooting in an attempt to hide from authorities.
At the time of his arrest, Hernandez was found to be in possession of a green balloon that contained Suboxone and a plastic bag of cocaine, according to the report.
Hernandez returns to court Dec. 6 for a status hearing on the Haverhill charges.
