Robert “Bob” Dryden was almost always in a supporting role during radio’s heyday. You’ll hear examples of his versatile voice acting during 97.9 WHAV FM’s presentation of “Yours Truly Johnny Dollar” over the next few weeks.
Part of CBS radio’s New York stock company of actors performing regularly in various dramas, Dryden portrays elderly Judge Amos Ordway on Sunday night’s “Johnny Dollar” episode, “The Lone Wolf Matter,” at 10 p.m., Sunday, with an encore performance at 1 a.m. Dryden also plays “Shorty” next week during the “Yaak Mystery Matter.”

He was well-known among area old-time radio enthusiasts, appearing at Massasoit Community College’s “Radio Classics Live” in Brockton and other events for radio enthusiasts. At Massasoit, he played “Albert” to Peg Lynch’s “Ethel” during re-creations of “Ethel and Albert.” Dryden similarly played the part at the annual Friends of Old-Time Radio” conventions in Newark, N.J.
Proceeds from Massasoit’s events was set aside for scholarships for students wishing to pursue a career in radio and TV communications.
In 1977, Dryden, who died in 2003 at age 86, appeared with John Belushi in a skit aired on “Saturday Night Live.”
