A 27-year-old Lawrence man sought on multiple firearm violations including armed assault with intent to murder was arrested Wednesday after leading Haverhill Police on an afternoon car chase that sent two people to the hospital, officials said.

David Rafael Hernandez was taken into custody by Officer Conor Rogier Nov. 6 at 4:42 p.m. on a warrant out of Lawrence District Court for his alleged involvement in a shooting in Lawrence Aug. 25. The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section assisted the Haverhill Police Gang Unit with his arrest.

While police attempted to arrest Hernandez, the man fled from police, ultimately crashing into three cars at the intersection of Haverhill’s Broadway and Monument Street. Two people were sent to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police spokesman Capt. Stephen J. Doherty Jr. told WHAV.

Set to be arraigned in Haverhill District Court Thursday, Hernandez also must answer to several motor vehicle-related offenses and two counts of drug possession.
