City Councilor Joseph J. Bevilacqua.

Speaking to WHAV’s Tim Coco and Marc Lemay live from his victory party at Maria’s Restaurant after the votes were tabulated, Fiorentini thanked his supporters and said he saw his win as a victory for the taxpayers. “I think tonight was a mandate, not just a victory—to keep going the way we’re going, to Haverhill affordable and to keep growing,” he said.

In the race for Haverhill City Council, incumbent Joseph J. Bevilacqua came out on top with 6,029 votes. It remains to be seen if his Council colleagues will maintain a 50-year tradition of naming the top vote-getter Council president. Jordan (4,756), Michael S. McGonagle (4,643), Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien (4,570) and Bill Macek (4,444).

On the School Committee side, longtime member Fiorentini-backed candidates Gail M. Sullivan and Scott W. Wood Jr. were re-elected, earning 5,859 and 5,584 votes respectively. Newcomer Toni A. Sapienza-Donais will join them on the education board, shutting out incumbent Sven A. Amirian after defeating him by just 65 votes.
