More progress has been made at Haverhill’s Mill Brook Park, with Mayor James J. Fiorentini formally signing a construction contract for the new Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in the city’s highlands neighborhood.
On Friday, members of Fiorentini’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ad Hoc Commission gathered in his City Hall office to mark the milestone.
Commission Chairman Ralph Basiliere applauded the efforts of his group over the last year after Fiorentini signed the contract with Walpole-based Bill Knight, Inc. “I’ve promised you a park of your own, the respect of your local government, and the admiration of your neighbors—you have earned all three,” he said Friday.
According to Basiliere, walkways, granite circles, granite sitting walls, footings and a memorial to pay tribute to Haverhill’s 13 sons lost in the Vietnam war will be ready in time for summer 2020 once construction begins on May 1.
