Drugs, alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the Friday night head-on crash that critically injured a Lowell man and left him with a serious head injury, Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon tells WHAV.

Twenty-one-year-old Tristan Morales Cintron remains in a Boston hospital receiving treatment in the wake of the crash, Solomon said Monday afternoon. According to police, Cintron was the only passenger in an Acura TL driven by Lowell 20-year-old Edwin Gamalier Rodriguez Jr. Following the accident, Rodriguez was treated at Lawrence General Hospital and released over the weekend.

The driver of the other car involved in the accident, a 2006 GMC Envoy, has been identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Santos of Lowell. He was in the car with his 10-year-old daughter, and both received minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

According to Solomon, Santos was driving toward Lowell at the same time Rodriguez was headed toward Methuen. A third car—a 2019 Honda CR-V—was slightly damaged during the accident, he said.

A Massachusetts State Police reconstruction unit continues to investigate the crash.
