Haverhill Public Meetings: Week of Oct. 21

The public has opportunities to shape policy this week as various Haverhill boards meet. In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week.

Monday, Oct. 21

Superintendent Margaret Marotta hosts the first of two school safety information nights at Hunking School, 480 South Main St., Bradford, from 5-6:30 p.m. to discuss the district’s adoption of the nationally-recognized ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) program. The forum will include a question and answer session and timeline for families ahead of the first student drill in November.

Haverhill’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council meets at 6 p.m. at Bartlett School, 551 Washington St., to tour the building, which is home to the Therapeutic Education Assessment Center of Haverhill (TEACH) program.

Tuesday, Oct. 22

MassHire’s Merrimack Valley Workforce Board meets at Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, 1 Griffin Brook Drive, Methuen, at 8:15 a.m. to discuss new business.

Christine W. Webb presides over a 9 a.m. session of the Haverhill Board of Assessors meeting in room 115 of Haverhill City Hall, 4 Summer St.

The new Diversity Committee, formed as a division of the Haverhill School Committee, meets at 6 p.m. in room 301 of City Hall on Tuesday night under the direction of Mayor and Chairperson James J. Fiorentini.

The second of two school safety information nights takes place at Consentino School, 685 Washington St., from 7-8:30 p.m. to discuss the ALICE protocol. Look for more on this program later in the week only on 97.9 WHAV FM.

Councilor Colin F. LePage discusses substance abuse in the city and recaps results of the Haverhill Youth Council’s survey at the 7 p.m. City Council meeting in room 202 of City Hall. WHAV plans to broadcast the meeting live on 97.9 FM as a public service.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission gathers for a noontime meeting at 160 Main St., Haverhill, to discuss the second phase of the Bradford Rail Trail, along with other roadway and bridge projects.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ad Hoc Commission plan to discuss fundraising efforts and look ahead to next month’s Veteran’s Day holiday during a 6 p.m. meeting in room 204 of City Hall.

Thursday, Oct. 24

The Haverhill School Committee hosts a regular session in room 202 of City Hall starting at 7 p.m. WHAV plans to broadcast the meeting live on 97.9 FM as a public service.

Public hearings for the construction of a residential garage on Wharf Lane and the paving of a Kenoza Avenue parking lot take place during the Conservation Commission’s 7:15 p.m. meeting in room 301 of City Hall.
