Today’s Obituaries—Oct. 17: Franz, Horton, McGinley, Murphy

Dr. Bruce R. Franz, 64, a longtime Haverhill resident and retired dentist, died on Oct. 16 in Boston surrounded by his family. Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 18 in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 South Main St., Haverhill from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services are Saturday in the funeral home beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Nancy P. Horton, 85, of Haverhill, died Oct. 15 at her home. She retired as an administrative assistant for the Massachusetts Statehouse administration and finance department. A funeral service is planned for Friday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. in Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St., Groveland. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family, with arrangements by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.

Barbara M. (Riedle) McGinley, 95, died Oct. 13 at the VA Hospital in Bedford. Born and raised in Haverhill, McGinley served in the United States Marine Corps Woman’s Reserve in 1944, stationed in Norfolk, Va., and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of private. She was also active in several Plaistow, N.H.-based civic and community groups, including the Pythian Sisters of Plaistow and Women’s Republican Club. She also served as the town chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis & Red Cross Drivers. Her funeral takes place Saturday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill. Calling hours precede the service from 2-4 p.m. Burial at Linwood Cemetery is private.

Leo F. Murphy Jr., 71, of Hampstead, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, died on October 15 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, N.H. He worked for Auto Body Sub Repair in Plaistow, N.H. Calling hours are Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2-4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H.  A funeral service follows at 4:15 p.m. in the funeral home.
