A Methuen man escaped injury Thursday morning at his Hidden Road home when a tree limb fell into his bedroom as a result of the overnight storm, Chief Joseph E. Solomon tells WHAV.

Police and fire personnel responded to 22 Hidden Road just before 7 a.m. to meet with the man, who told first responders he normally sleeps downstairs whenever there is a storm and had done so Wednesday night for that very reason.

“There is extensive damage to the home and if the individual had been in his bed as usual, it would have been a fatal accident,” Solomon told WHAV.

Elsewhere across the region, Haverhill’s Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School closed for the day Thursday due to power line damage and high winds near the Amesbury Line Road school. Buttonwoods Museum also temporarily closed due a power outage.
