More than 100 members of Haverhill High School’s graduating class of 2020 are well on their way to saving money for college after receiving the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for achievement on the MCAS exam, Principal Glenn Burns tells WHAV.

Scholarships, backed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, are awarded to students who earned proficient or advanced scores on the ninth grade science/technology MCAS exam and 10th grade MCAS English/language arts and mathematics exams. All students scored in the top 25th percent of the school district, Burns said.

The scholarship provides up to eight semesters of undergraduate education at a state college or university, including Northern Essex Community College and UMass Lowell. More information will be sent to scholarship winners and their families later this month.
