A fourth grade boy headed to Bradford Elementary School Wednesday morning brought a pocket knife on the bus and was promptly disciplined, Superintendent Margaret Marotta tells WHAV.

The boy appeared to be showing the knife to other students on the bus and adults intervened to confiscate the knife before the bus arrived to school. The student in possession of the knife was immediately brought to Principal Louise Perry’s office and his parents were called. A Haverhill Police School Resource officer was also notified.

“As always, the safety of students is our foremost concern. We have many procedures and policies in place to maintain a safe environment for all students,” Perry said in an email to parents at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday.

No one was hurt as a result of the incident, Perry said.
