Lace up those sneakers, locals: Samaritans of the Merrimack Valley are holding their third annual suicide prevention “Walk for Hope” this Saturday, Oct. 19, and tickets are still available.

Held at Willow Professional Park, 881 Turnpike St., in North Andover, the 1.5-mile walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and aims to raise awareness of mental health challenges and suicide prevention locally, Samaritans Director Deborah Helms tells WHAV.

“What is special about this event is the feeling of hope and support that everyone brings to the Walk. People participate to honor loved ones, support friends who are struggling, or just raise awareness because they know that suicide is a critical issue,” Helms explains.

Over the past two years, the event has raised nearly $30,000, allowing the Lawrence-based agency to hire additional support staff to expand their services, including their crisis help line.

Tickets for the family-friendly event are $30 and available online at FSMV.org.  For more information, call Debbie at 978-327-6671.
