With less than one month until Haverhill voters head to the polls, City Council candidates Tim Jordan and Fred Simmons have picked up endorsements from two key local unions.

Simmons, a 26-year Haverhill Public Schools maintenance employee, has been endorsed by the Service Employees International Union Massachusetts State Council. That group, based in Boston, unites over 105,000 health care, education, public sector and building service workers across the state. In a statement, SEIU Local 888 told WHAV Simmons won them over due to his advocacy for working families and commitment to the labor movement.

Jordan, meanwhile, has the backing of Haverhill Fire Department Local 1011 in his re-election campaign. The firefighters cite Jordan’s “undeniable” passion for the City of Haverhill—evident through his work on events like Team Haverhill’s River Ruckus—as a key reason for their endorsement. Jordan joins Council candidates Stavros Dimakis and Joseph P. Sherlock in receiving endorsements from the firefighters’ union.

In addition to choosing nine new city councilors on Tuesday, Nov. 5, Haverhill residents will also elect a new mayor—choosing between James J. Fiorentini and Dan Trocki—and select three new School Committee members.
