Containers of ‘Crystallized Substance’ Prompts Sunday Hazmat Response in Groveland

Local and state fire officials responded to Salem Street in South Groveland Sunday night for a report of a possible gas leak after containers of a “crystallized substance” and a “flammable substance” were located at 748 Salem St.

Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen and Interim Fire Chief Joe Santapaola tell WHAV in a statement there is no danger to the public after the incident, which did not necessitate resident evacuations.

Along with Groveland Police, a hazardous materials crew from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services remained until 10 p.m. to declare the scene safe.
