A 37-year-old Haverhill woman with a lengthy criminal past known to police put an elderly couple “in fear” last week when she allegedly pointed BB guns she said she got out of the trash at them, leading to her arrest.
Haverhill Police Officers Eric MacKinnon and Jordan Bergevine responded to a 911 call for a report of a woman allegedly pointing a firearm at two people just before 1 p.m. last Tuesday, Sept. 24 and after reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, met up with Cedar Street’s Roxanne Johnson. According a police report filed by MacKinnon, Johnson admitted to having the firearms but said they were toy guns she found in a dumpster on White Street.
“Johnson can be seen pointing the weapons indiscriminately left and right as she walks. Both witnesses stated they were in fear of Johnson and thought the guns were real,” MacKinnon said of the couple, a 70-year-old Haverhill man and his 67-year-old wife.
MacKinnon said the man involved in the incident believed the weapon was a “sawed-off shotgun.”
When questioned further, Johnson told police she knew the guns were not real and that she was “giving them to her son as gifts.”
Charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of disorderly conduct, Johnson was ordered held without bail at Haverhill District Court arraignment ahead of her next court appearance later this month.
