Carpenters Local Union 339 is going to work at the polls for Haverhill City Council candidate Nick Golden.
This week, the laborers lent their support for the freshman hopeful ahead of Nov. 5’s municipal election, pointing to his commitment to fair wages and working conditions as reasons for their endorsement.
“Nick understands the challenges that working families face in the construction industry and what it takes to keep the playing field level to ensure that all carpenters have an opportunity to go to a safe work site and earn a living wage,” union representative Adam DiGiovanni told WHAV in a statement.
A Tufts University graduate, Golden holds a degree in international relations and currently works on Beacon Hill as a legislative aide. He is running on a platform that includes workplace safety, wage equity, education and public safety.
All nine City Council seats are open this fall. In addition to Golden, all incumbents are running, along with Douglas W. Edison, Fred Simmons, former School Committee member Shaun P. Toohey, former City Councilor Kenneth E. Quimby, Stavros A. Dimakis and Joseph P. Sherlock. At the polls Nov. 5, voters will also cast ballots for Haverhill’s Mayor—choosing between James J. Fiorentini and Dan Trocki—and elect three new School Committee members.
