Signage Variance for Kobe Japanese Steakhouse Among Haverhill Meetings Week of Sept. 16

The public has opportunities to shape policy this week as various Haverhill boards meet. In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week.

The last of five restaurants to be constructed at a new $5 million development on the Haverhill/Plaistow, N.H., border is before the Haverhill Board of Appeals Wednesday night.

The board is hearing an application to waive limits on the size of two signs for Kobe Japanese Steakhouse at 89 Plaistow Road. Restaurant owner Andy Chen filed the application and is expected to be represented by attorney Michael Migliori.

Other restaurants are already open at the new plaza. They are Chipotle Mexican Grill, Aroma Joe’s, Five Guys and Jimmy K’s Diner.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

The MassHire Merrimack Valley Workforce Board’s Planning/Career Center Committee meets at 8:15 a.m. at Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, 1 Griffin Brook Drive, Methuen. Among other items, the committee discusses the annual plan for fiscal year 2020.

Haverhill Board of Assessors meets at 9 a.m. in Haverhill City Hall, room 115. The agenda includes the interim property valuation schedule and motor vehicle excise tax warrants.

Haverhill City Council meets at 7 p.m. in City Hall, Theodore A. Pelosi Jr. Council Chambers, room 202. The agenda includes a petition to build 60 condominium units in three buildings at 38 Railroad St., school bus safety and asking the city’s legislative delegation to file a bill banning outdoor billboard marijuana advertising.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

Haverhill Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Ad Hoc Commission discusses future fundraising, recruitment of corporate donors and conceptual drawings of Mill Brook Park, at 6 p.m. in City Hall, room 302.

Haverhill Cultural Council’s agenda calls for updates from event mentors, a “push to gain more applicants” to seek state grant money and a discussion of a multicultural event. The meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m., at the Haverhill Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St.

Haverhill Board of Appeals hears applications to waive signage limits from Andy Chen of Kobe Japanese Steakhouse for 89 Plaistow Road, a variance to allow shared driveways at three of five proposed housing lots at 316 Gile St., variance to subdivide 19 Franklin St. into two house lots on smaller than allowed lots, among other items. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Haverhill City Hall, room 202.

Haverhill City Council Public Safety Committee takes up a discussion with group home operator Vinfen regarding the July 5 disturbance at 20 Westland Terrace. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m., in the City Council office, room 204, at Haverhill City Hall.

Thursday, Sept. 19
