Help Haverhill neighbors meet their health goals! Emmaus seeks mentors to take part in a program to lead morning walking groups for adults residing in Emmaus housing, the YMCA and YWCA.

Called “Hopeful Soles,” the new program formally kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. at Emmaus’ D’Youville Center for Social Justice, where participants and volunteers will join in the city’s Walk for Peace event.

Emmaus looks forward to assisting community members build self-esteem and improve physical fitness, Executive Director Jeanine Murphy said.

“At Emmaus, we are always seeking ways to improve the quality of life for those we serve,” Murphy said. “The new Hopeful Soles program will provide a positive outlet for adults who have experienced homelessness to focus on improving both their physical and mental health and building positive self-esteem.”

The group meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:30-7:30 a.m. and more information is available by calling Jasmine Thompson at 978-702-4005. Volunteers are accepted on a rolling basis, Thompson tells WHAV.
