The annual Merrimack Valley Halloween Book Festival is returning to the Haverhill Public Library, 99 Main St., Haverhill, on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The festival highlights regional authors who work on pieces of darker and horror-centric fiction. More than 50 authors are scheduled to attend, discuss and sell their work. In keeping with the Halloween theme, candy is to be distributed and costumes are encouraged by the organizers.

Haverhill authors Christopher Golden and John M. McIlveen, the head of Haverhill House Publishing, are among the organizers of the event. Admission is free.
