Haverhill and Methuen are among the Merrimack Valley communities planning to mark the 18th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. In Haverhill, members of the city’s fire department plan to gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Water Street fire station, 131 Water St.

At 10 a.m., the Haverhill Exchange Club, Haverhill’s Brightside and the city’s Vietnam Veterans Commission will convene at the foot of the PFC Ralph T. Basiliere Memorial Bridge, where Rev. Frank Clarkson of the Unitarian Universalist Church will offer an invocation and Veterans Services Officer Amanda Buckley will raise the flag. Neal Ferreira is scheduled to sing the National Anthem, organizers tell WHAV.

Methuen’s fire department is holding a ceremony at the Central Fire Station, 24 Lowell St. beginning at 9:55 a.m., with refreshments served at 9:30 a.m. Chief Tim Sheehy is expected to offer remarks before the flags are lowered to half-staff.
