Mangia Haverhill! Members of the city’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ad Hoc Commission are gathering at Washington Street’s Garibaldi Club on Wednesday for a “Tour of Italy” dinner fundraiser to raise funds for the ongoing improvements to the Vietnam Memorial at Mill Brook Park.
With tickets nearly sold out, Commission Chairman Ralph Basiliere and Commissioner Linda Baxter tell WHAV the event is shaping up well.
“We’re going to have a fun night and we’re going to see exactly where we’re at as a Commission,” Basiliere said during an interview Wednesday on WHAV’s “Win for Breakfast.”
During the 6 p.m.event, the group plans to update locals on the progress of the memorial on Mill Street set to honor the city’s 13 war dead.
Basiliere reports the commission has completed $50,000 worth of improvements so far. With assistance from the mayor’s office and parks and recreation department, they removed errant tree limbs and added curbing and drainage, he said.
