Today’s Obituaries—Aug. 12: Cantwell, Jackson, Merritt

Dorothy I. Cantwell, 89, died Aug. 9 at Holy Family Hospital. Born and raised in Haverhill, Cantwell graduated from Haverhill Public Schools and went on to work as the bank manager for the Merrimack Valley Bank in Haverhill. Upon her retirement, she worked at the former New England Telephone. Calling hours are Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin at the same on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Church.

Jean (Kimball) Jackson, 79, died Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. After graduating from Haverhill High School, Jackson went on to work as an assembler for various electronic companies, including General Electric, Lucent Technologies, and Spartan Electronics. In her spare time, she enjoyed word searches and coloring. Funeral services are private.

John O. Merritt, 82, formerly of Haverhill died Aug. 9 in Port Charlotte, Fla. Merritt attended the former Haverhill Trade School, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Okinawa until his honorable discharge. Back in Haverhill, Merritt worked for the city’s shoe industry and American Optical before becoming a security officer. Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug 14, from 6-8 p.m. at the Dole, Child’s and Shaw Funeral Home. The funeral is the following day at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
