The license of a Methuen anesthesiologist and medical marijuana physician was “summarily suspended” last week after a state board found his insider trading conviction to be “a serious threat to the public health, safety and welfare.”

As WHAV reported last fall, Harold L. Altvater of Delta 9 Medical Consulting was convicted of three counts of securities fraud in federal court. He was later sentenced to 18 months in prison

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine said Altvater has the right to appeal. He was first licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts 20 years ago.

The board also reprimanded Andover Dr. Adam P. Beck after he admitted being disciplined by the State of New Hampshire Board of Medicine for substandard care of one patient there and substandard treatment of a second patient in Massachusetts. Beck, of New England Eye and Facial Specialists, also agreed to practice restrictions. Beck has been licensed in Massachusetts since May 2003. He is also licensed to practice medicine in New Hampshire, where he also has permanent practice restrictions.
