Haverhill-based disability services group L’Arche Boston North and anti-poverty group Community Action recently became two of 100 local nonprofits to receive a $100,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation.
L’Arche Boston North Executive Director Jennifer Matthews believes the grant is going to be a game-changer, telling WHAV in a statement the Wingate Street-based group plans to use the funds to expand their “Homemade Hummus” brand sold at the city’s Farmer’s Market.
“We are incredibly excited and honored by this opportunity to grow in our mission and explore new ways of being present to the needs of our community, while continuing to be a sign of hope,” Matthews said.
Community Action, under the leadership of president and CEO John Cuneo, is also poised to benefit from a Cummings grant. That group plans to use their award to launch workforce development programs.
“We are so excited to be able to support and expand career training, education and employment opportunities in the early learning field to parents and caretakers in our Head Start programs,” Cuneo said.
The grants are part of the foundation’s “100K for 100” initiative which provides $10 million in grants to Greater Boston nonprofits. The Haverhill organizations were selected from a pool of 574 groups and received the honor at a reception in Woburn.
