A 35-year-old Haverhill man has spent the last month behind bars in a court-ordered detox program after allegedly taking power tools from a Stevens Street business and selling them to undercover Haverhill Police detectives on an internet resale site.

Jeffrey Beaulieu was sent to a 28-day detox program after Rice and Brouillard Electric owner Phil Rice discovered company vans had been “ransacked” overnight and several tools went missing on May 29.

Surveillance video initially linked Beaulieu to the break-ins, and later on May 29, the owner’s son and coworkers also identified their stolen tools on the “OfferUp” app. According to a police report filed by Detective Kevin Portnoy, the owner’s son noticed the items were his because labeled his tools with his initials and he located the markings in photos of the items that were posted.

Beaulieu listed his own name as the seller of the tools on the app and provided a current profile picture that matched surveillance footage from the night of the break-in, police said.

On May 30, several Haverhill Police detectives, working undercover, placed an accepted bid for an item, and arranged to purchase them from Beaulieu at a Primrose Street pizza shop, where he was arrested after showing up in possession of the stolen tool.

During booking, he told police he stole the tools “as the result of a drug relapse” and told them they’d find the rest of the stolen items in his bedroom closet. When police searched his room, they also found and seized a small vial of Testosterone, a class C drug.

As a result, he was charged in Haverhill District Court with three counts of breaking and entering from a motor vehicle, one count each of larceny over $1200 and receiving stolen property and the drug possession charge. He remains held without bail until his next court appearance on July 3.
