Smith’s novel is a fictional piece, centering on the storyline of a Russian invasion of New England. The book focuses on one platoon of soldiers and is meant to show the heroism of those soldiers. Smith emphasized this point to WHAV. “This isn’t a book about one hero and 10 backup characters. All soldiers are heroes, and I tried to make this book portray that,” he said.

On Saturday, June 29, Smith, who holds a degree in criminal justice from Northern Essex Community College, plans to debut his book at the New England Authors Expo.

The expo takes place at Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliot St., Haverhill, and runs from noon-6 p.m. The event, held in the Hartleb Technology Center, is free and open to all.
