There will be no breaks for commuters—day or night, north or south—this week as construction of new Merrimack River bridges on I-495 continue.

Beginning today, there will be northbound left lane closures in Haverhill between Exits 48 and 49, as new roadway base material is added in the median between north and southbound lanes. Work continues daily, between 6 a.m., and 1 p.m., through Thursday, June 13. There will also be left lane closures on I-495 southbound, overnights between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., for the next several weeks.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials say the work is weather dependent and is subject to change without notice.

Construction crews recently achieved a milestone, connecting steel a new stretch of bridge on the northbound side from shore to shore.

Signs, traffic control devices and police officers will guide drivers through the work zone.
