A 21-year-old Haverhill man has been ordered to spend two-and-a-half years behind bars in state prison followed by two years on probation after pleading guilty to several charges in Salem Superior Court last week.

As WHAV previously reported, Highland Avenue’s Soto was arrested in April 2018 in Windham, N.H., after taking police on a high-speed, multi-state chase that began with shots fired at police in the city’s Acre neighborhood. The pursuit ended when the 2002 Mazda Soto was driving crashed exiting Interstate 93 in Windham. Soto’s passenger, Javonnie Chambers of Berlin, Maine, fled on foot and was captured four hours later, police said at the time. Officers were not injured during the incident.
Appearing before a Superior Court judge May 22, Soto entered the guilty plea in response to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, wanton destruction of property and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett’s spokeswoman Carrie Kimball told WHAV.
He has been ordered not to possess any weapons, including firearms, during his probation term, Kimball said.
