Today’s Obituaries—May 10: Lorrigan, Mack, Quimby, Saldi, West, Whittemore

Vincent D. Lorigan, 66, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died May 7 at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill. He was employed for many years as a Haverhill Public Schools custodian. Calling hours are Friday, May 10 from 5-7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral is Saturday, May 11 beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in All Saints Church, Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Burial is in St. Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill.

John F. “Popeye” Mack, 77, husband of Margaret (Chaffee) Mack, died May 8 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen with his family by his side. Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Donald E. and Augusta M. (Davis) Mack. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis on a Navy submarine patrolling the waters surrounding Cuba. Mack was employed for more than 40 years at Haverhill Paperboard and worked as a mechanic at Jaffarian Volvo in Haverhill. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 14 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill, with a service to follow in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery, Salem Street, Bradford.

Doris Quimby, 90, of Rye, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, died on May 3 at Webster at Rye, Rye, N.H. She retired from Lucent in 1988. At her request, funeral services were private with burial in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements were by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.

Helene Saldi, who split her time between Massachusetts, Kingston, N.H., and Naples, Fla., died on May 4. Prior to retirement, she worked for companies including Western Electric, Sanders Associates and Honeywell. At Saldi’s request, funeral services were private and under the direction of Driscoll Funeral Home, Haverhill.

Stephen “Bradley” West, 70, died May 6 at his home. A Haverhill native, he served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart. For many years, West was the head groundskeeper at the Merrimack Valley Golf Course and partnered with Brian Brooks in the hair replacement industry Bobkin Incorporated out of Boston. Calling hours are Monday, May 13 from 4-7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A funeral service follows in the funeral home at 7 p.m.

Pauline E. (Atkins) Whittemore, 82, of Haverhill, died on Friday, May 3 at Penacook Place Nursing Home, Haverhill. Raised in educated in Haverhill, she retired from Merrimack Valley Works in North Andover. At her request, funeral services are private with burial in Haverhill’s Greenwood Cemetery.
