A Massachusetts State Police cruiser was struck on Interstate 495 southbound near Haverhill’s exit 50 early Tuesday morning, officials tell WHAV.

State Police spokesman David Procopio tells WHAV the cruiser was struck when a vehicle trying to move over was unable to do so because another driver obstructed his merge. The cruiser was struck from behind.

The trooper reported back and knee pain and was transported to Methuen’s Holy Family Hospital for evaluation.
