Ready, set, cook! Haverhill City Council President John A. Michitson and state Sen. Diana DiZoglio are among the local leaders preparing to take part in a “Top Chef”-type cooking challenge to benefit The Liz Murphy Open Hand Food Pantry May 16 at the Bradford Country Club.

Michitson and DiZoglio (joining forces as “Team Gov”) are two of 14 community members pairing up to create a rapid-fire dish using food pantry staples in front of an audience.

Others participating are Steve Jaskelevicus and Marie Ferris (Pentucket Bank); Tom Faulkner and John Petriakeas (Haverhill Bank); Holly Roche & Maggie Opolski (The Roche Family as Team Mary’s Angels); Stephen Ryan and Brian Ray (Quinn’s Locksmith as Team Oh Crepe); Helen Sheehan and Jeff Grassie (Team Haverhill) and Pat Lavigne and Meghan McLaughlin (Servpro).

The show starts at 6 p.m. and the night includes appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $40 per person, available by calling the St. James Rectory at 978-372-8537.

All money raised goes to the Liz Murphy Open Hand Food Pantry, a collaborative effort by St. James & St. John the Baptist Parishes. The pantry feeds city residents on Ashland Street in the basement of the Unitarian Church each Tuesday from 2-7 p.m.
