Public Affairs Writer/Editor (Volunteer)

The WHAV Edwin V. Johnson Newsroom.

Nonprofit 97.9 WHAV FM—the only Haverhill-based news source—seeks a volunteer public affairs writer/editor. The successful candidate will be responsible for soliciting, compiling and rewriting, as necessary, news of civic, cultural and charitable events for WHAV’s “Community Spotlight.”

You’ll help dozens of worthy nonprofits reach the giving public. Your written stories will appear on-air and online. If you’ve always wondered about the inside of a fast-paced news or broadcasting operation, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Flexible hours and excellent for those looking for rewarding use of school hours. Volunteers become full WHAV members and receive priority ranking when suitable paid positions become available. Previous volunteers have gone on to become employees.

Attention to detail; excellent organizational, written and verbal skills; self-starting personality; experience with Microsoft Office; and reliable transportation required. Knowledge of Associated Press style, WordPress and Adobe Photoshop helpful, but training and guides will be available.

To be considered, submit introductory letter about your interests and resume/skills list using the form here. Interested, but not sure you meet all requirements? Just ask in your introductory letter.
