The business manager for Greater Lawrence Technical School is expected to be formally interviewed this week by the Haverhill School Committee for the job of assistant superintendent.

Maria Silva, who has managed finances eight years at the Andover vocational school, was formally named today as the sole finalist for the Haverhill post. Before taking over the business job, Silva worked as administrative assistant to the school principal for about five and a half years. She was first hired at Greater Lawrence Technical School during November 2001 to handle payroll.

Silva became finalist by vote of the Haverhill School Committee April 11 and was notified the next day, Haverhill School Superintendent Margaret Marotta confirmed in an email to WHAV. Marotta said, however, release of the candidate’s name, required by state law, was delayed to allow Silva to notify her staff “in person” after April school vacation.

She received her master’s in education last year from American International College of Springfield. Previously, Silva received a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern New Hampshire University, focusing on forensic accounting, and a bachelor’s from the same school.

The new job is designed to combine the job of business manager with someone to oversee personnel, food service, maintenance and technology. The last person to hold the title of assistant superintendent was Jared Fulgoni, who left Haverhill last June to become Amesbury’s school superintendent. Fulgoni had previously been a candidate for the job of Haverhill school superintendent.
