A Haverhill man was ordered held without bail this week after police on random patrol stopped him for broken tail lights only to locate a loaded handgun in the process.
Jairold Jimenez, of 11 High St., was stopped for not having his rear lights on by Patrolman Cory Baldera on April 14. During the traffic stop just before 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of River and Beach Streets, Baldera discovered Jimenez had an outstanding warrant for 2018 motor vehicle-related charges. A subsequent “pat-frisk” by Baldera turned up a firearm in Jimenez’s pants pocket, the officer testified in an arrest report.
Police determined Jimenez did not possess a license to carry the pistol, which was loaded with nine bullets.
A passenger in the car with Jimenez at the time, Elijah Declet, was cleared by police.
Twenty-one-year-old Jimenez appeared before Haverhill District Court Judge Mary McCabe this week and is being kept behind bars pending a hearing to determine if he is a danger to himself or others in the community.
