In Haverhill, it’s hip to be green—and on Saturday, April 27, several local leaders and residents are gathering to mark Earth Day with a citywide cleanup event. The event is rescheduled from the original date of April 20 due to predicted rain.

As in years’ past, Haverhill’s day of eco-friendly service encourages volunteers of all ages—groups are welcome!—to fan out across their neighborhoods to remove litter or other debris in an effort to beautify the city for all.

“This is a great opportunity to get out and really be part of your community and make a difference,” Haverhill’s Brightside’s Dave LaBrode tells WHAV ahead of the event. “Whether you are helping out in our downtown area, one of our neighborhoods or local parks, it is just a great way to welcome spring and feel good about our city.”

Volunteers may register for the community effort via the city’s Recreation Department website at HavrehillRec.org.

The universal gathering point for volunteers on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. is the 10 Welcome St. Citizens Center, where volunteers will be given assignments and hear remarks from local leaders before heading out to their cleanup spots. Snacks and trash bags will be available at the Citizens Center for the duration of the event until 1:30 p.m., organizers said.
