Hazmat Crew Responds to Haverhill’s Thermo Fisher for Sodium Nitrate Fire

A Haverhill Fire Department hazardous materials crew was dispatched to Bond Street just before noon Wednesday to assist with the aftermath of a fire at the Thermo Fisher biotechnology lab, WHAV has confirmed.

Fire Chief William Laliberty joined representatives from state fire marshal’s office at the scene after 1 p.m., as did Trinity EMS and Haverhill Police and Fire Department personnel. The ServiceMaster cleaning company was also on hand to decontaminate the scene.

No injuries were reported and the fire, involving sodium nitrate, was extinguished as of 2 p.m., Laliberty told WHAV.
