Update: Methuen Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon reports Jouseph Caraballo was arrested by Lawrence Police last night on the Methuen warrant. Solomon said a resident recognized Caraballo from media coverage.

Methuen Police are searching for a man, possibly armed, who is accused of breaking into a home.
Police are seeking the public’s help in locating 44-year-old Jouseph Caraballo after he apparently fled following a reported 7 a.m. break-in at the Rooming House, 91 Broadway, according to Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon.
Upon arrival, officers searched the building and reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a man later identified as Caraballo entering an apartment and leaving with items from inside. Carballo lives in another apartment within the building. Footage also shows him leaving the building, but returning later. Officers knocked on Caraballo door, but despite hearing movement, there was no answer.
As a precaution, Methuen Police requested a SWAT team from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and evacuated the building as a precaution. Just before SWAT members’ arrival, a man believed to be Caraballo’s roommate left the apartment and spoke with police. Forty-five-year-old Bernabe Gonzales was subsequently arrested on unrelated warrants relating to unlicensed driving and witness intimidation. Police did not find Caraballo inside.
“We are continuing to work with our law enforcement partners and exercising all available resources to locate this individual and take him into custody,” Solomon said.
When found, police said they will charge Caraballo with breaking and entering, larceny of more than $250, malicious destruction of property and possession of burglary tools.
There were no injuries, but a Rooming House tenant was taken to an area hospital for treatment of an unrelated illness. Anyone who believes they know Caraballo’s whereabouts is asked to call Methuen Police at 978-983-8698 but not to approach the man.
