David Mason Lamb, 89, Korean War Veteran, Former Bixby VP, Owned Travel Agencies

EXETER, NH: David Mason Lamb (formerly of Plaistow, NH and Hales Location, NH) passed away peacefully early morning on February 25, 2019 at age 89. His life focused on family, the outdoors and service to others.

David was a graduate of Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ and Yale University, majoring in history with a minor in physics. He served in the US Army Strategic Intelligence group during the Korean War. His voice- recorded accounts of his Army service are amazing and entertaining.

Following the war, he met Mary Bixby of Haverhill, MA and they married in 1953. David joined the Bixby Box Toe Company of Haverhill, now called Bixby International, where he served as Vice President and Director of Marketing until 1980. Bixby was a supplier to Haverhill’s still vibrant shoemaking industry. He later founded and operated a chain of three travel agencies (Gloucester, Haverhill, and Plaistow) until his retirement.

He retired to Hale’s Location, NH in the heart of the White Mountains. David could be seen most anywhere along the many hiking trails in the Whites. He had similar passions for skiing, sailing, tennis and biking. Later Mary and David moved to the River Woods retirement community in Exeter, NH.

Throughout his life, David was very active in the service to others. His contributions included: Timberlane District School Board member; Hurricane Island Outward Bound School Trustee; Lone Tree Council of the Boy Scouts of America Director; Rotary Club of Greater Haverhill President; Rotary Club of No. Conway Paul Harris Fellow; Pequawket Foundation Trustee and Treasurer; Jackson, NH Community Church Finance Committee; Wildcat Mountain Ski Club President; Meals on Wheels No. Conway; Volunteer of the Year, Hale’s Location Resident’s Association Finance Committee; Memorial Hospital of No. Conway, Volunteer.

David is survived by his wife Mary Bixby Lamb (married 65½ years). Together they had four children. Cheryl Lamb Riehl of Hampstead, NH (husband Hank and grandchildren Patrick Britton, Sarah Bozzi and husband Jevon, and Meghan Riehl). David Mason Lamb, Jr. of Kingston, NH (wife Carol, grandchildren Danielle Peck, Samantha Olsen and husband Ron, and great-grandchild Reagan Olsen). Margaret Lamb Merrens of Norwich, VT (husband Edward and grandchildren Samuel and Anna). Dave was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Smith Lamb. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their spouses, children and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday May 18, at River Woods, 7 River Woods Dr., Exeter, NH.
