Members of the Haverhill Police Department sent off their brother in blue, Patrolman David Mekalian, Thursday, Feb. 28 as he begins retirement after 31 years of service to the City of Haverhill.

Joining the force in 1988, Mekalian was celebrated on his last day by colleagues including Deputy Chief Anthony Haugh, retired Capt. Kim Parolisi and retired Officer Lance Dawkins.

“May all the years ahead bring you great joy, happiness and well-deserved relaxation,” Mekalian’s coworkers said in a Haverhill Police Facebook post.

During last week’s address to the City Council, Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro said his department now stands at 98, with an additional officer intending to retire in the near future.
