Winner Cake All indeed! Haverhill’s Erin Erler and Christine Barton of Broadway bakeshop Cakes by Erin took home a cool $10,000 Monday night on the Food Network competition series “Winner Cake All,” beating out three other teams for bragging rights on the Giada de Laurentiis-hosted show.

Tasked with designing a cake for comedian Loni Love and The Improv Comedy Club, Erler and Barton chose to pay tribute to several of the club’s famous comedians. Sitting atop the duo’s chocolate and salted caramel confection was a microphone character acting as emcee in front of the club’s iconic brick wall. Accent pieces to represent the likes of Joan Rivers, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield and others were used.

“Your experience with comedy is that you want to laugh until you cry, so we pulled salty tears and used salted caramel,” Erler told Love during the judging round.

As Erler and Barton told WHAV before Monday’s episode, they had five hours to construct the cake when the episode filmed last October. Typically, the bakers would prefer 24 hours to craft a similar dessert.

All things considered, those five hours proved to work in the bakers’ favor, with Love and other panelists declaring their cake a cut above the rest. While Love docked a few points for the flavor of the cake, it was Erler and Barton’s design that won her over. “It was legendary,” she said.

Bringing bragging rights back home to Haverhill is a “dream come true,” first-time Food Network competitor Barton said on the episode.

In her fifth Food Network appearance, Erler admitted that being honored for her cakes never gets old.

“Just hearing our names called that we won proves that we’re the top of the top at what we do. We have bragging rights!” she enthused.

Cakes by Erin operates out of 800 Broadway in Haverhill.
