The Haverhill High hoop teams are getting ready for the big dance—for the first time in quite a while. Over the weekend, both varsity teams scored a ticket to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament Division 1 North playoffs, marking the brown and gold’s first appearances since 2012.

The 13th-seeded Haverhill boys play fourth seed Boston Latin in an away game Wednesday, Feb. 27, while the girls’ team sits in the No. 7 spot to host No. 10 team Waltham Monday, Feb. 25. Both games are at 7 p.m.

Elsewhere on the Hillies’ Athletics scoreboard, Haverhill Cheer captured a Merrimack Valley Conference title Sunday. The pom-pom squad wasn’t the only team to go unbeaten this season: The wrestling team also nabbed a trophy when they were named 2019 MIAA Division 1 North champions. Coach Timothy Lawlor was named Coach of the Year by his regional peers, the Athletics Department said.
