No one was injured Saturday night when bullets were fired into a single-family home off Lowell Avenue.
Haverhill Police confirmed the shooting and continue to investigate. Officers were sent to the 60 Rockland St. home just before 9 p.m. after receiving calls. Police do not believe the shooting was a random act.
“The preliminary investigation yielded evidence that projectiles had been fired into the home by a firearm. No one was injured and the case remains under investigation,” said Capt. Robert P. Pistone.
The number of shots fired and the extent of the damage to the cape-style home were not released.
The Haverhill Police Department is asking that anyone with information or who may have witnessed anything contact Detective Dana Burrill Jr. at 978-373-1212. Anonymous tips may also be left at the same number.
The same neighborhood was the focus of a similar shooting last fall. Haverhill Police investigated last Labor Day weekend when a home at 257 Lowell Ave. was shot at multiple times. Later, a car fire was reported at the property. Two weeks later, police arrested 19-year-old Elijah J. Oliver, whose last known address was at the home.
Following his arrest, police believe, Oliver somehow managed to conceal a Smith & Wesson 9mm gun with seven rounds in a magazine. The weapon was found in the rear of a police cruiser where Oliver was handcuffed.
According to a police report obtained by WHAV, Oliver’s “tumultuous” movements upon being handcuffed apparently caused police to miss the gun during a “brief” pat-frisk. He told police he’s “in fear” for his life after his Lowell Avenue home was shot at and firebombed.
It is not known if there is any connection between the neighborhood incidents.
