Seven area fire departments headed to Haverhill Tuesday morning to assist with the knockdown of a blaze at a home on the city’s Baltimore Street.

The two-alarm fire began in a first-floor apartment bathroom at 46 Baltimore St., resulting in fire, smoke and water damage to that unit and the one above it, Haverhill Fire Chief William Laliberty told WHAV. A quick-thinking neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke and as a result, damage has apparently been limited to the bathroom area, Laliberty said.

No injuries were reported, though the Red Cross is assisting four residents who have been displaced.

Laliberty expressed appreciation to crews from Groveland, Georgetown, Merrimac, Lawrence, Methuen, North Andover and Salem, N.H., who responded to assist at the scene and with city coverage.
