A man looking to sell car parts to a person he connected with online was ambushed and shot at an estimated 11 times at a Methuen McDonald’s restaurant late Monday, Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon tells WHAV.

Arranging to meet in the parking lot of the Haverhill Street fast food restaurant around 11 p.m., the victim was ambushed by a group of at least 10 men in several cars. He was hit by two of the bullets and managed to make it inside the McDonald’s, where a Good Samaritan provided first aid until medics arrived.

“It’s obvious the man knew what he was doing,” Solomon said of the bystander. “He provided first aid, applied pressure, put clothing on the wounds. So we’d like to thank that individual for his heroic actions.”

The suspects are still at large, with Methuen Police currently reviewing surveillance footage for tips.

In an unrelated incident Monday night, Methuen police responded to a fight involving weapons at 91 Broadway. According to Solomon, one of the people involved in the incident allegedly assaulted officers at the hospital. That altercation is also under investigation.
