Carlos Ortiz, the Haverhill roofer killed last week in an accident at an Essex Street construction site, will be remembered during a visitation on Wednesday night at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home.

Family and friends plan to gather from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 486 Main St. At the family’s request, no other information is being made available as they continue to grieve, the funeral home confirmed.

Forty-one-year-old Ortiz, born on June 4, 1977, tragically lost his life on Dec. 18 when officials say he suffered a fall at a downtown Haverhill job site. Ortiz was working nine stories up when he fell through an opening on the roof believed to be an elevator shaft. He worked for River Street’s Progressive Roofing at the time of his death.

As OSHA and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the construction worker’s sudden death, Ortiz’s Haverhill neighbors are rallying around the family he left behind.

A GoFundMe memorial fundraising page set up by relatives, including his nephew Jacob Ortiz, has raised more than $11,000. Donations are accepted online by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/nparc2-memorial-fund.
