Haverhill woke up with heavy hearts Wednesday after the tragic loss of 11-year-old Consentino student Precious Wallaces. As WHAV previously reported, the city girl died Tuesday afternoon after being on life support at Boston’s Tufts Medical Center following an accident over the weekend.

Wallaces, a Tilton Elementary School graduate, was remembered fondly by her school community in a note to families penned by Superintendent Margaret Marotta.

“Sadness has once again gripped our school community. Precious Wallaces, a beautiful and well-loved girl that attended the Consentino School, passed this afternoon,” Marotta wrote to Consentino parents Tuesday night.

Grief counselors and staff from the Riverside Trauma Center are being made available for students as they grapple with the loss of a classmate, Marotta said.

WHAV has received unconfirmed reports the student ingested a substance after school before falling ill, and on Tuesday afternoon, District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett’s office confirmed local and state police are investigating the circumstances that led to her death. Lawrence first responders were initially called to a home on Saturday morning to assist Wallaces, who was later taken to Lawrence General Hospital and medflighted to Tufts, where she died.

Family members have created a GoFundMe page to pay for funeral expenses.
