Two Portland Street men were taken into custody over the weekend after what police say was an alleged drug deal to exchange cocaine.

Leedell Graham, of 71 Portland St., and Rodney Smith, of 25 Portland St., were arrested by Officer Adam Durkee on Saturday, Dec. 15. Police spokesman Capt. Stephen J. Doherty Jr. tells WHAV a “rock-like substance” believed to be cocaine was seized from Smith, who was charged with possession of a class B drug and one count of conspiracy to violate drug laws.

After transporting Graham to the station for booking, police discovered a residue believed to contain a mixture of saliva and suspected cocaine in the back of the cruiser. According to Doherty, Graham was charged with one count of defacing property, as it “appears he was spitting out” the white substance said to be cocaine.

Both men are scheduled for arraignment in Haverhill District Court this week.
