Mary I. (Shanahan) Cleary, 99

Mary I. (Shanahan) Cleary, 99, wife of the late J. Edward Cleary, died peacefully at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill with her loving family by her side.

Born in Groveland, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Agnes (McGinley) Shanahan. Raised and educated in Groveland, Cleary was a graduate of Groveland High School. She loved listening to “Brunch by the River,” shopping, traveling and going to Hampton Beach. Known as a sweet woman, Cleary always put others before herself, a giving and selfless woman who was an example and inspiration to her family and friends. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed for her wonderful spirit and loving ways.

Cleary is survived by her children, Stephen J. Cleary and his wife Linda (Allen) of Danbury, N.H., Maureen Noury and her husband Stephen J. of East Hampstead, N.H., Connie A. Corr and her husband Earl D. of Haverhill, daughter-in-law Deborah (Guilford) Cleary of Portsmouth, N.H., and Jack Cleary of Haverhill, seven grandchildren, Sean C. Corr and fiancee Laura E. Stokes, Patrick J. Corr and his wife Gwendolyn, Christopher B. Corr and his wife Melanie, David M. Noury, Monica Lynch and her husband Joseph, Casey R. Cleary, and Misty S. Cleary, and seven great-grandchildren, Jack C. Corr, Caroline P. Corr, Liam D. Corr, Mack Porter, USMC, Mea Cleary, Mari Cleary and Michaela Velie. In addition to her husband, Cleary was predeceased by her son Patrick J. Cleary, her siblings, Francis, Paul, Jack, Joseph and Leonard Shanahan, Anna Olsen and Agnes Brent.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill.
