John A. Lapierre, 69, Haverhill Schools Custodian

John A. Lapierre, 69, husband of the late Patricia Anne (Witty) Lapierre, died at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton on Dec. 6, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Oscar N. and Theresa M. (Ward) Lapierre. Raised and educated in Haverhill, Lapierre was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School in Haverhill. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1971 and was honorably discharged. He was employed at Lucent Technologies for many years as a mechanic and worked as a custodian for the Haverhill school system and Salem, N.H. school system. With his charming personality and great sense of humor, he could be seen enjoying lobster and ice cream at local venues. He took many trips driving up and down the East coast. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Lapierre will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children, Angela J. Goodwin and her husband Tony J. of Epping, N.H., Adam G. Lapierre and his wife Melissa A. of Derry, N.H., Beth W. Lapierre of Haverhill, six beloved grandchildren, Jacqueline DeMarco, Matthew Lapierre, Gregory Aasen, Justin Lapierre, Zackery Pelfrey, Natalie Lapierre, his brother Richard Lapierre and his wife Joan of Naples, Fla., his sister, Susan Wollitz and her husband Curtis of Leland, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 4-7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill. Donations may be made in his memory to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, 10 Reed St., Haverhill, MA 01832.
